Hmm, CSV worked fine for me. The first row includes field names, which are
all single words, not enclosed in quotes. These are: familyname, phone,
addr1, addr2, addr3, addr4, name1, name2, name3, name4. All the data rows
contain fields enclosed in quotes, separated by commas.
It's a bit odd how it exports the given names -- it includes the e-mail
address (if present) after the name, enclosed in angle brackets. For
example, in the name1 column for the Smith family, it might say "Joseph <
jsmith at prophets.org>". It also includes only 4 name column headings,
although it does properly include the first names for as many individuals
may be in the family. Furthermore, it just lists the family members in
order, even if there is only one parent, so you can't depend on name1 being
the father and name2 being the mother.
As near as I can tell, this is a valid CSV file. Some applications that
import CSV might be picky about the fact that the column headings aren't
each enclosed in quotes, or the fact that there are data columns without a
heading (if any family in the ward has more than 4 members, which is highly
likely). If that's the case, you could try editing the header row by hand in
some text editor (such as Notepad) to fix those issues and then try to
import it again. Excel handled my ward's CSV file with no modifications.
The vCard format worked fine as well. It puts the head of household's e-mail
address in the e-mail field of the vCard, and then also includes a note
field that lists the name and e-mail address of each family member.
