I agree with Jeff on this. What would happen if all the members used a
bill pay service that just cut a check and sent it to the bishop? The
financial clerk would get stuck writing up all the donation slips every
week.

On the monthly Stake Financial Summary, there are a couple lines of
information showing the difference, both for the month and year-to-date,
between the amount of fast offerings donated and expended. I'd bet that
these amounts do not include amounts donated directly by members to
Church HQ. If large numbers of members decided to do this, then that
would make these numbers inaccurate and maybe they would take them off
the reports or else figure out how to credit the stake's account.
I think at some point, the Church is going to have to deal better with
EFT directly to Church accounts.
