We had a different problem when the plastic cups first came
unannounced to be used with our metal trays. On Sunday
that first time, the bishop, who was used to crushing his paper
cup before dropping it into the tray, realized that the crunch of
plastic could be heard throughout the chapel.
We could have lived with that. It was the first time, after all.
But after the deacon finished passing to the stand, he was
rounding the corner at the bottom of the steps when that
particular cup decided it no longer wanted to be crunched.
After it uncrunched itself inside the metal tray, there were many
who would have testified in court that the deacon had been shot
by an unknown assassin. Reverence was poor for the rest of
that sacrament meeting.
