Tonight, with the help of the Global Support Desk, I was able to connect a
ward clerk's computer to the wireless access point installed for the FHC.

Local Unit Support was closed, so I don't know how to tell MLS to use a LAN
connection rather than the dial-up connection. Do any of you know if I have
to change a properties file or something else?

FYI, here is what I did:

- I walked around the meetinghouse with my laptop checking for a wireless
signal (broadcast or not).
- I found a signal in several places around the meetinghouse, with different
MAC addresses.
- I grabbed the Linksys wireless-G USB adapter from the FHC that came with
the newest computer. It was not in use, because all computers in the FHC are
hard-wired using CAT 5 cables.
- I connected the wireless adapter to the clerk's computer, and inserted the
CD that came with it, so Windows XP could install the driver. Note: Do NOT
install the monitor utility that auto-starts from the CD; you won't need it
to connect to the Cisco Aironet 1200 that FM/CCN installed.
- On another computer, I downloaded wirelessclient.exe from the CCN web site
provided by the Global Support Desk.
- I installed wirelessclient.exe on the clerk's computer, then I had to call
the Global Support Desk to ask them for all the access codes and security
codes and node IDs (whatever) that wirelessclient.exe asked me for.
- Bingo! Once I had configured the Odyssey Client, it knew what WEP
encryption key to use to talk to the Cisco Aironet 1200. The signal in the
clerk's office is only "Good" (three out of five bars), but the connection
is 36 Mbps, which is just a bit faster than a dial-up connection.

I believe we are using:
- DSL modem
- Cisco Pix
- Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Access Point
- Linksys Wireless-G USB adapter
