The re-imaging DOES work VERY WELL on the Dell 740 Optiplex. You just have
to boot from the first CD using an EXTERNAL CD/DVD drive, as I did in this
case. My mistake was leaving the USB flash drive plugged in. Therefore, the
imaging software tried to install the image on the USB flash drive instead
of the SATA hard drive.
The only things you need to download from mls.lds.org are the instructions
and drivers for the Optiplex 740. Well, you also have to download the
LANDesk update, the SAV update, the lessons, etc.

It will not work on the Dell 740 Optiplex. You need to go to mls.lds.org and
get the download from there. You will need your unit number and the
password. I had the same issue. The 5.5 re-imaging will not work on the new
Dell 740 Optiplex. I had to call SLC regarding this.
