I am stake clerk in the Mount Vernon Washington Stake and am also an ordinance worker in the Seattle Washington Temple. We received our new temple recommends back in the middle of June, with the instructions to complete the change over in 4 months. In the Temple we started last week, August 28, scanning with the scanner. The Temple President commented that they were told the new system was being started on the West Coast and was going to work it's way East from here. So, he said, we will be seeing regular recommends for some time.

  Skier:

Has anybody heard when the new recommend system is to go live for
everybody? AFAIK all of the units now have the new books and the reader
is in place in the temple.

  Tom Walker:
I heard about 1 November. BUT it depends on how Diligent the Stakes are
in meeting the 4 Month Deadline they were given for the Conversion when
  they received the new books.

Here in my Stake the BIG bottleneck in the conversion process in the
Stake Presidency. THEY are NOT going out of their way to make more of
their time available for signing the upgraded recommends.

We got our books in August. We were asked to make the change in four
months. That means we should be finished by mid-December.

The four temples nearest to us do not have the scanners or computers in
place to even begin reading the recommends.

Our stake presidency has worked with each unit to schedule times over
the next three months to sign recommends.

Our challenge is that we have two bishops who thought tithing settlement
time would be a good time to start issuing the new recommends, which has
led to some specific training topics at stake leadership meetings.

This is just my own personal opinion. As I have guessed before, I think
that by the end of the year, or perhaps beginning in January, you will
need a coded recommend or your bishop will get a phone call. I am sure
the temples will let the stake presidents know.

I also know that the temples will do anything they can to make sure that
worthy members with current recommends are able to enter the temple, so
I would not worry too much about it, as long as there is a plan in the
stake to get the recommends converted by the end of the four months.
