"In previous versions of MLS I was able to copy the information from, say,
the expenses detail to a text file using the *Ctrl+Shift+S* shortcut. The
shortcut still works in MLS 2.6 but I find that the information from the
majority of the finance screens results in the data being replaced with
*****."

I called CHQ about this. This is an intentional change and it not only affects financial data; it affects membership data as well. They don't want us to use this feature (along with the <Ctrl-Shift-C>, Ctrl-Shift-V> cut/paste feature) to export confidential information. They consider it a breach of data security.

For those of us who have used this method to get around the reporting deficiencies in MLS, this is very disappointing. However, I can see their point. After all, this is the Church's data and they want to have control over it. Poor practices on the part of clerks could certainly expose confidential data to those who are not authorized to access it and they can't always be assured that these external files will be handled with proper care.

For membership data, they suggest using the data export features built in to MLS. For financial data, well, there's no solution other than manually re-entering data into a spreadsheet. Hopefully, they will come up with something better in the future.
